Artist: On The Spot

moxie! public realtions is proud to feature Rocksteady as this week's Artist: On The Spot.

No one has really been paying attention to the Midwest. I mean, cities like Chicago and St. Louis have produced some big names, but there is way more talent in the Midwest than recognized. Unforuntely being smashed in between two coasts that have profoundly impacted hip hop, the Midwest is stepping out with a bang! Ladies and gentlemen meet Rocksteady...

MPR: Why the name "Rocksteady"?

Rocksteady: I chose Rocksteady not because I'm a cartoon watcher, but because "rocksteady" was a villan in the cartoon series of Teenage Mutan Ninja Turtles. I kinda see myself as the raps villan.

MPR: Many artists are inspired to perfect their artistry. What was yours?

Rocksteady: My inspiration came from knowing that my dad used to rap. He opened up for BOW-WOW when Snoop had first put him on stage at the Valleydale so I use him as my motive to go hard.

MPR: So how did emceeing come about? What brought about your love for hip hop?

Rocksteady: Why i became a rapper slaughterer? lol I just have this major love for music. I started off playing the trumpet in 5th grade.I liked it. I was first chair through my middle school years and then it started to bore me. So at about twelve years old I just was writing down little stuff that rhymed while I was in the back of class. Thats when the cockiness started. I heard guys around school saying they was the next wayne and stuff. So like on the school bus we would pass around a cd player with instrumentals on it and we'd rap for the kids on the bus and let them chose who was doper. It wasnt battling it was just competition. Lots of people thought I was dope..so i just keep it pushin...fell in love with it..now i wake up and breath music..i have note pads full of songs...black berry is full of memo's..lol

MPR: How important is originality?

Rocksteady: Originality is always good, but you have to remind the listeners of someone when they hear you..not necessarily sound like someone else..but you have to spark something up in their minds.

MPR: What image do you think your music conveys?

Rocksteady: That not all young artist are doing the stanky leg and the superman. I'm bringing real music back. I haven't mentioned not one thing that's not true in my music.

MPR: You often mention "Cocky Club." Tell me a little about who Cocky Club consists of.

Rocksteady: COCKY CLUB consists of me, Young Wise, Trillieboi, Dpayne and P.Graves. Basically I have a great foundation behind all this madness.

MPR: Have you recorded any previous CDs or posted any auto files online? If so, what's the recording process like? Who produced the tracks?

Rocksteady: I haven't relased any previous cd's but lots of leaked music.Plenty of downloads and lots of love for it. As far as recording goes, my dude Kito Denham is my engineer and Oren Unger does some of my beats. Lots of people have helped put some of the pieces together for my puzzle.
